Martin Arter, president and CEO Affiliated Foods Midwest, has been recognized with the National Grocers Association (NGA) Spirit of America Award. The presentation was made at the Nebraska Grocery Industry Association’s (NGIA) annual legislative dinner on Jan. 28. The award, presented by NGA President and CEO Peter Larkin, is one of NGA’s top honors and recognizes leaders for their dedication and service to the independent supermarket industry.

“Martin has been a steadfast leader and advocate for the independent supermarket operator. As an industry executive, he truly understands the importance of educating both state and federal lawmakers on industry issues and how those issues impact independent supermarkets,” said Larkin.

Added Kathy Siefken, president of NGIA, “Martin’s relationships with our state legislature and administration as well as with our congressional delegation have helped to solidify the important role Nebraska’s supermarket industry plays in helping to advance our industry’s agenda. NGIA is grateful for his leadership and support of our industry.”

The NGA Spirit of America Award, established in 1982, honors key industry and community figures that have provided leadership in the areas of community services and government relations on behalf of a free and independent food distribution system. NGA has given this award to more than 550 leaders, including Presidents George H. W. Bush and Gerald Ford, as well as other distinguished leaders serving in the grocery industry and the public interest.
